More about „Who we are“
Post-Scondary School Years
Our extensive and diverse post-secondary programm provides feeling of security and belonging during the transition phase into adulthood.
Besides an adapted Gerneral Education Programm we offer an integrated two-year pre-vocational training. The curriculum includes many opportunities of job shadowing and internships.
Our pre-vocational training within our facilities covers five professional fields plus a bonus-programm „independant living“:
- Catering,
- Basic Carpentry,
- Sensory Awareness,
- Fine Arts Workshop,
- Facility Management.
For those students, however, who opt for a change in their social environment, a post-secondary programm is also offered at three regular Vocational Schools throughout Berlin (like August-Sander-Schule in our district). Transfer to the inclusive setting is preceeded by an indepth preparation and monitored carefully.
The State Curriculum Frame
The new Curriculum (2011) grade 1 – 10 is competency oriented by design. This frame for inclusive settings as well as special help schools in Berlin focusses on activity oriented teaching and teaching goals close to the general curriculum.
Our Staff
Education and experience, openmindedness and dedication as well as the ability to connect to each of our students also help build a strong relationship with their parents and primary care givers, who in return give us the most precious gift: trust.
Our staff represents a wide variety of those competencies. With us work:
- fully certified special education teachers (MA)
- regular teachers with wide range and long term experince,
- assistant teachers with additional special education qualifications,
- physical, occupational, speech and music therapists
- individual assistants for the multiply handicapped
- paraprofessionals, interns and volunteers.

Interns and Volunteers
GMS offers internships and quite a number of opportunities for volunteers for a wide variety of health care and educational professions, social work, special education and remedial education as well as various therapy professions.
We feel that success is a joint venture. Therefore, guidance to volunteers is essential as we appreciate their dedication and talents. Basic training is provided by each team the volunteer is assigned to. This training is always connected to a specific set of tasks and related to certain students.
Professional Advice
We offer professional advice to parents and other schools at every level and to those who have special professional questions. Fully certified spec ed teachers at GMS also contribute to the formal assessment and diagnostics process of students of all ages. It is our obligation to advice on SEN as well as on all schooling options so parents can choose the best eductional environment for their child.
International Relations
We enjoy input from outside and sharing different experiences. Being multilingual throughout our personell and management, speaking English, French, Spanish, Swedish and Icelandic, we welcome fellow teachers and interns from abroad at any time.
Have a look at our professional friends within Berlin, Germany and Europe. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with our Visitor’s Bureau if you think about a study visit.
